Autumn Term 2013 has seen the first ever house competitions take place with many more to follow over the coming months. We started with a ‘design the new Abbeyfield Rugby shirt’, with the winners going to an RFU and Canterbury design workshop to actually design the new shirt.
On Thursday 3rd October, I and three other students Jamie Markie,James Parker and Julian Fleming went to Northampton Casuals to design the new Abbeyfield Rugby shirt. We were chosen to do this because we had all entered the house competition of designing the new Abbeyfield Rugby shirt and we all won a place. We were invited to do this because of the help from the RFU, as we are in the All Schools Rugby program that allows us to also be taught by a coach called Ben, he is currently teaching us all how to play rugby union in matches and most PElessons. The shirts that we designed will be made by Canterbury and they will be giving a kit of 20 to the school free of charge, for the rugby team.
It was a great day out at the Casuals, with eight other schools mainly from the Northamptonshire area. First, they told us about how shirts are designed and showed us designs and shirts that are used by everyday rugby teams like England, Leicester Tigers and Russia (that Julian wore most of the day). After this, we were told how to make our own designs for the school and we all made a quick design to see what we came up with. Once we had lunch, we all joined heads and came up with this design for the new kit, that will used in this season and future seasons of the school rugby team.
I feel very proud and I can speak on the behalf of the others that we all enjoyed the day.
