Abbeyfield to host Northampton 'Day of Song'
Abbeyfield School choir have been working on new repertoire in preparation for a ‘Day of Song’ in July. The day will be hosted at Abbeyfield School, and will be a showcase of performances from our student choir, as well as Weavers School, Wellingborough. The performances are part of a project that has been organised by the Creative Education Trust to encourage more students to sing.
The students have been participating in workshops with Charles MacDougall who is a British tenor, choral animateur and vocal coach. He was a founder member of vocal ensemble VOCES8, singing with the group for over seven years, performing over 100 concerts internationally every year. He has worked with the school choir since November and has chosen a wide range of repertoire for the choir ranging from Italian Opera, to Folk and popular songs.
The project has also given two students, Oliver Evans and Joanna Wickham, the opportunity to have one-to-one singing lessons with Charles as the school’s ‘Music Ambassadors’. The students have been given the challenge of learning Italian Opera for the July performance. Oliver will be performing Deh, vieni alla finestra from Don Giovanni, and Joanna will be performing O del mio dolce ardour by Gluck.
