Monday 26th April saw Abbeyfield School’s Year 9 Football team triumph over Malcolm Arnold  3-1 to win the ‘Tommy Wainwright’ U14s County Cup.

The match was well fought on both sides, but Abbeyfield School controlled the game for the majority of the time. Thomas Curry scored the first goal from a set piece. He then delivered a free kick into the box which was neatly headed in by Josh Barnes. Two goal line clearances and some cracking saves led to us going into half time 2-0 up. After half time MAA came out fighting and scored to make it 2-1, but shortly after, Tyler Evans scored for Abbeyfield to settle the game and clinch victory with a final score of 3-1.

A great game and a fantastic result for our team! The PE department are incredibly proud of their achievements this year, especially with their cup run leading up to the Final:

  •  1st Round : 10-0 v Thomas Beckett
  • 2nd Round 17-1 v Campion
  • Quarter Final:  6-2 NSB
  • Semi Final: 4-2 Guilsborough School
  • Final: 3-1 Malcolm Arnold Academy
