World Book Day- Thursday 3rd March 2016

  World Book Day logo

World Book Day is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and most importantly, it’s a celebration of reading. In fact, it’s the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world.

To mark the event, Abbeyfield’s Library was transformed into a magical Alice in Wonderland set for the whole week and students dressed as the main characters- Alice, the Mad Hatter and the Dormouse- to bring it all to life. In addition, every student in the school was given a £1 book voucher to put towards a book purchase.

On World Book Day- 3rd March- the whole school came together for a ‘drop and read’ session where students sat quietly reading a book of their own choice.

Check out the Gallery below to get a flavour of the event.
