Abbeyfield Students Celebrate GCSE Success As One In Ten Grades Reach 8 Or 9

Students and staff at Abbeyfield School are celebrating today after receiving their GCSE results, with one in ten GCSE grades awarded at grades 8 or 9.

Across the year group, students achieved 68 grade 9s and 179 grades at 8 or 9, reflecting strong performances from pupils across a broad range of subjects.

Among the standout achievements was Atharv Thakur, who achieved an exceptional set of results with eight grade 9s and two grade 8s. Florence Patrick-Goulding also secured seven grade 9s and three grade 8s. Other high-achieving students included Alexander Smith, who achieved seven grade 9s and four grade 8s, while Chara Nurcellari and Grace Wadsworth each achieved five grade 9s and five grade 8s. There were also excellent results for Ayush Bhatnagar, who achieved six grade 9s, four grade 8s and one grade 6, and Adhyayan Godbole, who achieved four grade 9s, five grade 8s and two grade 7s.

Atharv Thakur said: "I am so happy with my results. I would like to thank the whole school community for their support."

Grace Wadsworth said: "I am so proud of the progress I made in the last year. I worked so hard and it is amazing to get these results."

Alexander Smith said: "Abbeyfield is a truly supportive school with a brilliant community."

The school also saw improvement in key headline measures, with both Attainment 8 and the proportion of students achieving grade 4 or above in both English and Maths increasing from last year.

Richard Shaw, Principal of Abbeyfield School, said:

"Congratulations to all our Year 11 students on their GCSE results. Today is an important moment to recognise their hard work, determination and ambition, and to celebrate the opportunities these results will open up for them.

"There have been some exceptional individual achievements this year, including students securing multiple grade 9s and top grades across a wide range of subjects. These outcomes reflect real commitment from our students and the expertise, care and encouragement of the staff who have supported them.

"It is wonderful that these results will allow our young people to take their next steps with confidence, with so many staying on to study in our excellent Sixth Form and others heading to college, to start apprenticeships or training. Every student receiving results today should be proud of the progress they have made and the contribution they have made to Abbeyfield School.

"I would like to thank our staff for their dedication and our families for the support they have given throughout the year. We wish every student the very best for the future and look forward to seeing what they achieve next."

Nicole McCartney, CEO of Creative Education Trust, said:
